Amateur society

The 2024 Rules allow a group of at least four ASOC holders to apply to form an amateur society for installing and operating an amateur station. The application must follow the prescribed process and fee.

Custodian

The society application identifies one ASOC holder as the custodian. If the custodian changes, the Government must be informed within the period specified in the Rules.

Membership condition

The permission continues while at least four of the applicant ASOC holders remain members. Changes in membership must be reported as required.

Society call sign

The Government may issue a unique call sign for the society. Its validity is linked to the period set out in the rules and the validity of the custodian's ASOC, whichever is shorter.

Special event call sign

The Government may assign a special call sign for a specific event to an ASOC holder or an approved amateur society. The application should be made at least 90 days before the event, as specified in Rule 13.

Validity of special call sign

A special event call sign is valid for 90 days from the event's commencement. If the event lasts longer, a fresh application is required under the Rules.

Use the call sign only for the approved purpose

A special call sign must be used only within the approved event, dates and conditions. It does not replace the operator's normal ASOC or allow operation outside the permitted bands and power.
