Common questions about the Indian Amateur Station Operator Certificate and this free preparation portal.

DXR ASOC LEARNING CENTRE · FREE STUDY RESOURCE
What does ASOC stand for?

Amateur Station Operator Certificate. It is the certificate required for an individual to operate an amateur radio station under the applicable Indian rules.

Is this an official DoT website?

No. DXR ASOC Exam Practice Portal is an independent learning resource from VU3DXR.in. It is not operated by DoT or WPC and cannot accept applications, fees or issue certificates.

Who can apply for an ASOC?

The 2024 Rules generally specify Indian citizenship and a minimum age of 12 years, along with passing the relevant examination. Special provisions may apply to foreign nationals with Government permission and clearances. Check Rule 4 and the official service page.

What are the two ASOC categories?

ASOC (General) and ASOC (Restricted). General includes a Morse Code proficiency requirement as specified by the Central Government. Operating privileges differ and are governed by the current rules and conditions.

What subjects should I study?

The written syllabus is broadly organised into Radio Theory and Practice, and National and International Regulations. Check the detailed official syllabus and the latest examination notification for the exact topics.

Is Morse Code required for Restricted?

Rule 5 of the 2024 Rules specifically states a Morse Code proficiency requirement for ASOC (General). Follow the current official notification for the exact requirement and test arrangements.

What is the pass mark?

Rule 5(5) of the 2024 Rules requires at least 40 per cent of the total marks for the relevant ASOC category. The rule does not itself state a separate 40 per cent pass mark for each of the two written sections.

How many questions and how much time are in the actual exam?

The Government publishes the examination manner, place, date and time. Do not treat the portal’s 50-question / 60-minute or 100-question / 120-minute mock presets as official exam specifications unless confirmed by the current notification.

Are all questions and practice sessions free?

Yes. All public question-bank browsing and open practice on this portal are free. Registration is not required for ordinary study.

Can I transmit after passing the exam?

Not automatically. Wait for the applicable certificate / authorisation and call sign, and follow all operating conditions before transmitting.

Where do I apply?

Use the application link shown on the current official DoT ASOC service page. Portal arrangements can change; verify the live instructions before applying.

What are Wireless Monitoring Stations?

They are field units within DoT’s spectrum-monitoring organisation. They monitor spectrum use, help investigate harmful interference and support spectrum-management functions. Some are also involved in ASOC examination arrangements when notified.

Does this portal guarantee that I will pass?

No. It is a study aid only. Question-bank quality and coverage depend on the material uploaded by the portal administrator. Always study the official syllabus and rules.

Information is provided for general education and may change. The latest DoT notification, the Telecommunications (Amateur Services) Rules and official portal instructions take precedence.
