1. Check eligibility and category
The 2024 Rules generally specify Indian citizenship, a minimum age of 12 years and successful completion of the examination. Special provisions may apply to foreign nationals, subject to Government permission and clearances. Decide whether you are applying for General or Restricted.
2. Read the current notification
Check the DoT ASOC service page and the current examination notice for the application portal, dates, examination centre, syllabus, method of examination, documents and fee instructions. Do not rely on old examination calendars or third-party schedules.
3. Submit the application
Complete the application through the portal identified in the latest official instructions. Upload the requested identity and supporting documents, submit the application and retain the acknowledgement or reference number.
4. Attend the examination
Attend the notified centre or follow the notified examination method. The 2024 Rules state that the examination language is English. The General category also requires Morse Code proficiency as specified by the Central Government.
5. Check the result and next steps
Use the official portal or result notice to check the outcome. Successful completion requires at least 40 per cent of the total marks for the relevant ASOC category under Rule 5. Do not interpret this as a separately prescribed 40 per cent threshold for each practice section unless the current official notification expressly says so.
