Certificate and call sign
Under Rule 6 of the 2024 Rules, the Central Government issues the applicable ASOC category with a unique call sign after successful completion of the examination and payment of the applicable grant fee. The rules specify that the grant payment must be completed within two years from the result declaration, failing which the certificate will not be issued.
Validity and fee information
The 2024 Rules and the DoT service page describe 20-year and lifetime validity options for the certificate. The DoT service page currently lists the fees for these options. Fee details and payment heads can change or differ by category; check the live official service page and payment instructions before paying.
Station operation
Do not transmit merely because you have submitted an application or passed a practice test. Operate only after the relevant certificate / authorisation is granted and in accordance with the assigned call sign, permitted frequency bands, emission types, power limits and station conditions.
Application portal and changing instructions
The DoT website publishes service-specific application links and portal notices. Older references may mention Saral Sanchar. The Department has also published notices about its newer authorisation portal under the Telecommunications Act, 2023. Follow the portal link currently shown on the official ASOC service page rather than relying on a saved old URL.
Keep official records
Retain your application acknowledgement, result, fee receipt, certificate, call-sign details and any subsequent amendments or renewals. Contact the DoT / WPC helpdesk shown on the official service page if your application or certificate status needs clarification.
