01

ASOC (Restricted)

The Restricted category is one of the two certificates recognised by the 2024 Rules. Its operating privileges are subject to the frequency bands, emission types, power limits and other conditions specified by the Central Government. Check the current official schedule before selecting or configuring transmitting equipment.

02

ASOC (General)

The General category provides broader operating privileges than the Restricted category, subject to the applicable rules. The 2024 Rules specifically state that the General examination requires Morse Code proficiency at the level specified by the Central Government.

03

How should I choose?

Choose the category you intend to apply for and prepare against the syllabus and instructions published for that examination. Do not assume that an unofficial question bank, older grade terminology or a practice-test score guarantees eligibility or a certificate.

04

Important distinction

Older documents refer to Grade I, Grade II or Advanced licences. The current Telecommunications (Amateur Services) Rules, 2024 use ASOC (General) and ASOC (Restricted). Always refer to the current rules and the latest DoT notification.

Information is provided for general education and may change. The latest DoT notification, the Telecommunications (Amateur Services) Rules and official portal instructions take precedence.
