Example: before a normal HF contact

Check the current Indian band schedule and the privileges attached to your ASOC. Select an allowed emission and power. Listen first. Confirm the frequency is clear. Make a brief call using your assigned call sign. Identify again at the end of the transmission period.

Example: a 15-minute transmission

Identify at the beginning. Because the transmission period exceeds ten minutes, repeat the call sign during the period. Identify again at the end. Keep the transmission within the authorised band and emission limits.

Example: a station causes interference

Stop or restrict the transmission when directed under the applicable rule. Check frequency accuracy, harmonics, spurious output, feeder condition and equipment alignment. Resume only when the issue has been addressed and operation is permitted.

Example: a disaster message arrives

Do not assume that any third-party message can be passed. Check whether normal telecommunications have failed and whether the competent Government authority has permitted the activity. Record the message and follow the authority's instructions.

Example: portable station at a new location

Check the certificate conditions and the DoT procedure for station location changes or temporary operation. Record the temporary location in the log. Do not assume that an unreported permanent move is acceptable.

Example: contact with a foreign station

Check that international communication is permitted by both administrations. Keep the content within the amateur-service purpose. Do not use secret codes to conceal the meaning of the message.

Before transmitting

Confirm the station is authorised at the location. Confirm the band, frequency, emission and power are allowed. Check the antenna and feeder. Listen for ongoing contacts. Make sure the transmitter is stable and within band limits.

During transmission

Use the assigned call sign. Keep messages within the amateur-service purpose. Avoid business, advertising, music and prohibited content. Keep calls concise. Do not cause interference.

After transmission

Close the contact correctly. Complete the log in IST. Record the stations contacted, times, emission and summary. Keep equipment records current and retain logs for the required period.
