The detailed syllabus editions do not all use identical headings. In the Restricted/General syllabus format, the General examination adds communication principles, transformer details, semiconductor principles and biasing, power supplies, facsimile and television signal principles, ionospheric and tropospheric propagation, microwave aerials and satellite communication. These additions are included in this guide.
Candidates should study the complete Section A guide if preparing for General. Restricted candidates should give priority to the topics identified in the current Restricted syllabus and use the extra chapters to strengthen their understanding. Do not rely on an old grade label when selecting an examination category.
