Important note about syllabus coverage

This document expands the earlier study notes and adds topics that were missing or only briefly mentioned. It covers the technical areas found in the published Indian amateur-radio examination syllabi, including the detailed WPC Appendix I structure and the additional technical topics listed for the General examination in the later Restricted/General syllabus format.

The syllabus has changed across editions. Older documents use Grade II, Grade I and Advanced terminology. Later ASOC syllabus documents use Restricted and General. The Telecommunications (Amateur Services) Rules, 2024 now provide the current certificate framework. The latest DoT/WPC examination notice must be treated as the final authority for the examination a candidate is taking.

For clarity, the chapters below identify topics as Core technical foundation or General-level extension where that distinction is useful. Some useful practical topics are included as supporting knowledge. Their inclusion does not mean that every item is a separately prescribed examination question.

What was missing or underdeveloped in the earlier draft?

How to use this guide

  • Read each chapter in order. The early chapters provide the foundation for the later radio topics.
  • Work through the examples with a calculator. Keep the units in every calculation.
  • Learn what each circuit block does. Do not rely only on memorising names.
  • Use the formula summary and revision points after completing the chapters.
  • Practise with original MCQs after each topic. Check the latest official notice for the current examination format.
